Prema podacima SZO iz 2000. godine od dvadeset najčešćih poremećaja zdravlja, depresija se nalazi na četvrtom mestu.
I u Srbiji depresija zauzima četvrto mesto na skali bolesti i to iza bolesti srca, moždanog udara i raka.
